And The Winner Is....

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to watch the Academy Awards: The Oscars. I came in with no expectations because I had not sat through the Oscars for many years. I must say I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it from beginning to end. There was only one moment where I wanted to turn, but the performer was over quickly, I wasn't forced to endure more than the two minutes they had given the performer. I decided to recap the Oscars from my view point.

The acceptance speeches were memorable. I will highlight four in particular. Jared Leto, "Dallas Buyer Club". In his speech he paid to tribute to his single mother who had given birth to him as a teenager. In that speech he conveyed the love, determination and sacrifices his mother had for him and his brother. How she never gave up and challenged him to reach for the impossible dream. Lupita Nyong'o, "12 years a Slave", she reminded us all the power in which we all possess in side of us to reach for the stars and to never give up. I paraphrase her, when she stated, "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid". It struck a cord inside of me that I will forever remember.  Darlene Love, "20 Feet From Stardom", as she began her rendition of His Eye Is On The Sparrow, all I could do was holler. She woke up the audience with her praise to the most High God. I was just smiling from ear to ear. Then we have Matthew McConaughey, "Dallas Buyers Club", who captivated me honoring his father. The southern man, showing respect to God, his family and just saying how he is his own hero. He also expressed always striving to be the best he can be. Finally stating that he wakes up motivated by self-determination because he knows his best is yet to come. Those are the moments I remember from the Oscars and that made it well worth the watch.

We must learn from which we came. Be grateful that with each living breathe we have another opportunity in which to get it right. We are truly blessed, and as the song goes, the Lord has been good to me. I have testimony...

What did you learn from the Oscars of 2014?  Moment of reflection time.
