It's very unfortunate that women or men think this way. There is no excuse for either his or her behavior. If his relationship is in trouble then he needs to work on that relationship.  Also, it seems as if the mistress thinks that she has some kind of prize. What's the treasure? Him getting up and leaving? Disease?  Pregnancy? The angry spouse that shows up to her with vengeance in her heart? It seems like a loose-loose situation to me...
