Down in the Dumps

Before I begin with this blog, I want to first give honor and thanks to my beloved, late Bishop Otis Lockett Sr.  It is because of him that I am who I am today.  He taught me everything I know, and when I was a young adult in college, he took me in, adopted me, and raised me spiritually as one of his own.  I was going through some old notes from the five years I was under his ministry.  (This was before I moved to Chicago and him passing away last October.)  This message was preached on April 10, 2010.  For those of you are down in the dumps, I pray what he preached three years ago will be as effective as it was then.  In this message Bishop Lockett Sr stated that people fall in the dumps because of two reasons.  One being bills, and two because of health.  How many of you can already attest to this?  I sure can, but it gets better:

7 Things to Remember While Down in the Dump:

  1. God is still in control

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and staff, they comfort me.

  1. Don’t be surprised

James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.

  1. Let by gones be by gones

1 John1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  1. Count your blessings

Don’t focus on how bad things are but on how good God has been.

  1. God is on your side

Romans 8:31 If God is for us, who can be against us.

  1. God can bring the best out of a bad situation
  1. Say the word

Nobody can encourage you but yourself

When you run into a moment in life again, yes I said again, because in life you have ups and you have downs, hold on to these seven things that I’ve already mentioned. I cannot and will not take credit for this blog.  This blog came directly from my spiritual father not me just for clarification.  I will leave you with this, “a dump is a place for throwaways and faith is in the heart, hope is in the mind…encourage yourself out of the dump!

Thank you,

Bishop Otis Lockett Sr.
