Everything Is Not a Joke
It's a sensitive matter to me; therefore I want to ensure I convey it in strong enough language that it opens a dialogue of truth. I recently posted on my Facebook wall that there are four things that I had no choice: Being born Black, Being born Female, Being born in America, & Being born a Williams. Over the past few days I have witness an outcry of emotions based on the alleged recorded taping of LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling & his girlfriend. In which he is currently being accused of making racial remarks. I could go on and on about the taping but what I am more concerned with, is the justification of inflammatory, hateful speech being covered under the First Amendment.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no
law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of
grievances. - US Constitution
I think it is time for people to understand that free speech is not Freedom of Speech. People need to take a hard look at the word abridge. More importantly, does your right to freedom take away my same rights? It should not surprise me but it does, that we have become a culture that accepts ignorance. I am even more taken aback, that the oppressed are asked to take a lick and keep on kicking. It is not being asked just by the majority but by the minority as well. We have become desensitized. The mentality has become you have the right to do x so get over the fact that a thru w happen.
I believe in God with all my mind, body & soul, but I am even more aware that the devil is alive and well. I will not look at things as the glass is half empty, but I will not carry on with rose colored glasses and pretend that there is not an attack on people of color in America. I will not look at the news and allow for them to constantly report on the crimes committed against blacks by other blacks, and allow it to be a justification for others to do the same. When did it become acceptable that wrong justifies wrong? You cannot ask people to do better when there is a constant attack on their character and livelihood. For every negative story that is being perpetuated there is a positive one that is being swept under the rug as being an anomaly.
I do not wish to see blacks hurting one another and I also do not wish America to allow others to infringe on the liberties and constitutions rights of blacks under the premise that it is covered under the First Amendment. You do not get to pretend that the Emancipation Proclamation did not occur. Although, I have issue with the great President Lincoln and how we continue the farce that he was for blacks. It was all strictly business and money related. Let us stop perpetuating untruths throughout generations.
I close with this, I may not get it right all the time, but I am thankful that I get it right some of the time. "If you do not stand for something you will fall for anything." - Malcolm X.
