Matthew 25:35-36

King James Version (KJV)

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

I was at work the other day and the subject of the holidays came up.  I was shocked to find the people at my job commenting on why they hated the holidays.  The main comment that came up consistently was the fact that people are only nice to each other at this specific time of the year.  Why couldn't we show "Holiday Love" all year round?  Then the question was asked to me, "Do you give gifts for no reason, help the poor, and show love?"  But the question did make me think.  Why is it the only time people seem to be a little more happy and lighter?  On the flip side, why do people hate the holidays?  I said yes to 2 of the answers.  I do give gifts for no reason and I try to show love as much as I can. Yet, giving to the poor is something I need to try and work on.  To be honest, I love listening to Christmas all year long.  I would celebrate holidays all year if I could.

As I ponder this question in my heart, the Lord always sends an answer.  I happened to be on Facebook and there was the solution for helping the poor.  My home church is in the city and everyday I pass by beggers, especially children.  My heart goes out to them.  Before you go there with me, I do not give to everyone, but the children have a tendency to bother me.  They are usually beating a drum or performing some type of act to get money. I also at times see them once they collect money purchase food and split it with each other.  But I digress this blog is about solutions.

On Facebook, Kris Quartermus posted this on her a blog, and gave a great idea about helping the poor:

" I absolutely love this idea! Blessing Bags to keep in the car when you pass homeless people. Something special you can do with the kids to teach them about caring for others.
BLESSING BAGS
INGREDIENTS:
Gallon size Ziplock bags
chap stick
pa...ckages of tissues
toothbrush and toothpaste
comb
soap
hotel size shampoos
trail mix
granola bars
crackers
pack of gum
band aids
mouthwash
coins or predetermined dollar amount, say 5.00 (could be used to make a phone call, or purchase a food item)
hand wipes
you could also put in a warm pair of socks
a packet rain poncho
tampons (for women)
The ideas could be endless!
Assemble all the items in the bags, and maybe throw in a note of encouragement. Seal the bags and stow in your car for a moment of providence."

We have so many things that we throw away on a daily basis, we could just give away and this is not just for the holidays, but for everyday.  Someone needs you.  You may be the light that brightens up someone's day.  This is another Fabulous Thing you can try.

Be Fabulous and Be Blessed.
