A Tribute to my Daddy

Father's Day is one of my favorite holiday.  I get to celebrate the love my father has for me, and the first man I ever fell in love with...even though he doesn't let us. (That's a long story).  I was told that since my mother had my sister and I back to back, my dad had to choose which child he would have to care for if we woke up in the middle of the night.  I was the chosen one.  To me, my dad and I have a special bond.  He was the person I wanted to be most like when I grew up.

A couple of special things that stand out for me is his relationship with the Lord.  In our household God superceded him.  He showed us in so many ways and aspects, that God is in every detail of our lives.  We never really had a formal Bible study, but my Dad would ask us questions after church to make sure we paid attention.  He would ask question like, "What was the Sunday School lesson about?"  "What scripture did it come from?"  "Did the Sunday School teacher explain it well?"  "What did she say?"  "What do you think?"  That was our Bible Study.

When I was a little girl, I loved Popeye.  My daddy and I would talk about Superheros all the time.  He told me if I ever got in trouble, he would save me.  I asked him, "What if the villian is bigger than you?"  My daddy said, "God has put something in me that even if the villian was bigger than I am, God has put the power in me to conquer anything."  As teenagers, my father would tell us we could do anything as long as we backed it up with the bible.  I remembered my sister and I wanted to go to the party.  We found the scripture where Jesus was at a party of sorts.  He even changed water to wine.  We presented that argument to my father and he told us we couldn't go anyway.  We explain how we proved in the Bible we could go.  We reminded him of his clause about proving what we could do using scripture.  My father paused and said, "I have a scripture that supercedes your argument, the Bible says 'Honor your Father and your Mother', I say you can't go, argument over."  We've been had.

I thank God everyday for having a great father!!!!  Fathers, your sons and daughters need you.  You are the reason why they are here and  responsible for where they are going.  Don't think that when you walk away you are not responsible.  Father's who are hanging in there, stay the course.  I still need my father's advice from time to time, and even if he doesn't say a word, his life is his testimony.    I love you Daddy!!!

Happy Father's Day
