It is Finished

When Jesus had tasted it, he said, "It is finished!" Then he bowed his head and released his spirit. John 19:30
One thing of the many things that struck me about Jesus, was his ability to stand in the face of adversity, yet surrender when the time came to do so. Although the disciples were vehemently opposed to the mere thought of him sacrificing his life, Jesus knew that it must be, and had settled in his spirit what must be done in order to fulfill the will of the Father.
Likewise, there are times when we must settle in our spirit that we must do not that which is popular, not what feels good or is convenient, but we must fulfill the will of our Heavenly Father. Doing so in many cases will cause us to call some things finished.
Many of us set goals for ourselves as we entered 2013. I wonder, how many of us let go of some things to make room for the achievement of the new goals? Mark 2:22 tells us that we shouldn't pour new wine into old wineskins; otherwise both the old wineskin and the new wine will be ruined.
God is saying that we must finish some things first before we can move forward. Jesus served as a great example. He completed his earthly mission before moving on. For Jesus, that fulfillment involved him being celebrated early in the week, being arrested, beaten, mocked, scorned and ultimately crucified by week's end.
Likewise, each of us will have to bring closure to some things in our lives in order to move forward. I don't know what yours may be, but you may have to let some things go. Sometimes that includes some people whom we have deemed to be very important in our lives. Jesus had to leave his disciples and own mother behind in order to fulfill God's will.
As we come to the end of the first quarter of the year, this is a good time to reflect, and ask ourselves can I honestly say like Jesus,” it is finished?” If not, I implore you to do what you must in order to do so, then like Jesus you will feel a release in your spirit that will allow you to move forward. I leave you with this. Some dreams & relationships & plans have to die so new & better ones can be resurrected. It's just the law of nature.
