Shrek Day 2
As the movie progresses, one of my absolute favorite scenes takes place at the birthday party for the baby ogres. During this party you see a child constantly begging Shrek to do his ogre roar. This little boy is HILARIOUS! Even typing I can hear this little boy saying, "Daddy, make him do the roar". Although an ogre, Shrek is no longer the ogre he once used to be, and he doesn't enjoy the pressure of being asked to slip back into this role. But in spite of his best efforts, everywhere he turns this little boy is present! Finally out of shear frustration of the many disappointments that seem to be coming nonstop, Shrek let's out his ogre roar. Instead of people reacting out of fear, which is what used to happen, after a few seconds of stunned silence everyone begins to laugh!
What a frustrating but powerful lesson! Have you ever noticed that no matter what you accomplish, there is always someone around that will not forget what you used to be? The truth is, Satan desires to keep us bound by things in our past that we have moved on from. However, if we're not careful, we will find ourselves returning to a place that we really don't want to be. After Satan gets us where he wants us to be, we never get the results we thought we'd get! As a matter of fact, once Satan has accomplished his goal, of getting us off task, our hurt and disappointment is most times met with someone else reveling in our misery!
We see Samson in a similar position. He has attached himself to a Philistine woman against everything he was taught. Time after time he finds himself in a position he never thought he'd be in, trying to defend himself against enemies that want nothing more than to use his for sport! Delilah was attempting to exploit Samson's weakness, just as this little boy was attempting to exploit Shrek's.
There are two lessons here I want us to grasp with this small portion of film and story. First, never allow yourself to be pulled into a place that you don't want to be! Whereas your past is your reality, your future holds your destiny! Secondly, be careful about how you let persons into your personal sacred places. Remember that Satan dispatches demonic decoys that have the sole purpose of finding our weakness! Often times, we give them too much time and space in our lives! Always remember, one decision can often waste valuable time as we pursue our purpose and promises! If you haven't by now, you have got to watch Shrek Forever After, we are going somewhere with this!
