Your Light Within by Delores Sanan
Your Light Within
One night while I was washing dishes, I looked out the kitchen window at the sky. My attention was drawn to a very bright light. My first reaction was that it was a plane, but then I noticed it wasn’t moving. To my surprise, it kept getting brighter and brighter. At that moment, I was thinking this is just a tad bit strange. I called my son and showed it to him and he too thought it was an airplane. When I asked why isn’t it moving, he took a closer look and said, no it’s a star. Then he recalled something he learned in school about the brightness of stars when they are burning out. At this point, the two of us decided we needed to take a picture with a camera neither of us knew how to work. As he tried to figure out how to use the camera, I kept going back to look at the star. Each time I went back to look, I could see that the brightness of the star was fading. Pretty soon, it was a just a very dull light. Although we missed the Kodak moment, throughout the night I kept going back to the window to look at that star. The last time I checked, it was completely gone. Although it’s been over a month now, I still find myself looking to the spot where the star once shone.
Every day, we have an opportunity to be like that star. We can allow the brilliant light of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to shine in such a manner, that people can’t help but notice. Matthew 5:15-17 reads, “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” 1 John 4:4 reads, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Each day, we should allow the spirit of the Lord, he that is greater, to shine through in all that we do. Never should we hide his light through our conformation to the ways of the world. Like the brilliance of that star, we too can be instrumental in drawing others to Christ.
